Development of National Standard Design for Waste Processing Facilities (IPS)
Project type
National standard MEP design development for waste processing facilities and deployment-ready specification package.
Date
2025
Location
Indonesia
The Development of National Standard Design for Waste Processing Facilities (IPS) project, commissioned by Kementerian Pekerjaan Umum - Arkonin EMP in 2025, aimed to establish national mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) standards for Indonesia’s IPS to support safe, efficient, and scalable waste processing infrastructure. In response to growing municipal and industrial waste volumes and the government’s need for replicable facility designs, the project focused on defining consistent technical requirements that accommodate different process technologies while ensuring regulatory compliance and grid compatibility.
A member of PT Geni Buana Nusantara, in collaboration with Arkonin, developed MEP specifications covering power demand estimation, electrical distribution and standby power systems, HVAC and process utilities, process equipment interfaces, instrumentation and control, and supporting systems such as water supply, drainage, and fire protection. Activities included load calculations, equipment selection and sizing, preparation of technical specifications and single-line diagrams, coordination with process and civil engineers and regulatory authorities, and development of installation, operation, and maintenance guidance. The final deliverables comprised a comprehensive MEP specification package, equipment schedules, drawing templates, and procurement and commissioning recommendations - these outputs are intended to enable consistent design, streamline procurement, and reduce implementation risk for IPS projects nationwide.
