Knowledge Product on Sustainable Urban Cooling
Project type
Knowledge-product development on sustainable urban cooling for local government policy and planning.
Date
2025
Location
Indonesia
The Knowledge Product on Sustainable Urban Cooling project, commissioned by ICLEI Southeast Asia in 2025, aimed to equip local governments with practical guidance for reducing urban heat and cooling demand through sustainable, climate-resilient interventions. Responding to increasing urban temperatures and the need for energy-efficient city planning, the project sought to align cooling technologies, policy instruments, and urban development strategies with local governance capacities and climate goals.
PT Geni Buana Nusantara developed the knowledge product by synthesizing insights on sustainable cooling technologies, reviewing relevant policy frameworks, and formulating urban development strategies tailored for municipal implementation. The scope of work included technology assessment, policy analysis, collection of case studies, and the creation of implementation guidance for planners and decision-makers. The deliverable provided clear, actionable recommendations on technology adoption, policy measures, planning interventions, monitoring approaches, and stakeholder engagement to help local governments integrate sustainable cooling into their climate and development agendas.
